Slipcovers Part 2

It took me forever but I finished the slipcover for our new love seat!  It was a bit of a beast and I’m pretty sure I spent hours {literally, hours} staring at that thing to try and figure it all out, but it’s done and I’m very proud of it.  I feel a little bit like this lady:

Yeah, I’m basically Wonder Woman’s twin sister.  Except, instead of a lasso and shiny body suit, I was covered in thread and blood from all the pin pricks and wore some really hot, paint-covered, ratty sweat pants.  Meh, close enough.

Ok, onto the really fun stuff.  Here is the before {ignore the rips.  I had already torn out the cording-which I reused for the slip-when I realized I hadn’t taken a pic}:

And after:

I am in love with this area now.  It’s clean, light, airy, pretty, and comfy.  And I made it.  All by myself.  Yes, there are seams where I don’t really want them,  the back of the skirt isn’t even, and I’m sure there are plenty of mistakes all over that thing, but I love it because I made it.  All by myself.

Believe it or not, I’m actually motivated to do another one now.  And instead of recovering the couch we just got, I’m going for our sectional.  The whole dang thing.  I have probably lost my mind after talking to myself for days doing the love seat, but I think it’s a good crazy and can’t wait to get started.  Well, I may wait just a few more days so all the holes in my fingers can heal:)

For now, I’ll just stare at this beautiful wall.  I have some fun posts coming this week about some of the artwork you see here so make sure you come back.

Cost of the slipcover: $50.

Slipcovers Part 1

Our living room is undergoing a huge overhaul right now and I can’t wait to show you.  I do have to actually finish it first but I’ll show you bits and pieces as they get finished.  As you know, we lucked into a bunch of furniture last week and I have started refinishing some pieces.  We accomplished a few things over the weekend but today I am going to share my bubble skirt ottoman slipcovers (there are 2).  I watched Miss Mustard Seed’s video tutorials and used her basic concepts to create these country, casual ottomans.

Here is the before:

And the after:

They definitely have their imperfections but I love how they turned out.

I’m heading back to the sewing craziness but come back tomorrow to get a fun tv mount tutorial from Mike:)

Slipcovers

Well we’ve hit the furniture jackpot again.  My bff who lives in Chicago is moving next week and purging a bunch of old furniture.  It’s actually only a few years old and in great shape but they don’t need it anymore.  Mike and I are road tripping it up to Chicago bright and early Friday morning (luckily we both have the day off) to load up everything we can fit into the back of his dad’s truck.  We are taking a love seat and couch and so my next big project will be to attempt my first slipcovers to make them fit with our color scheme.  Yikes.  To help me get started, I’ve been scouring the web looking for some tips, tricks, and inspiration.  Here are some great sites I found and will be referring to in the coming weeks:

Miss Mustard Seed-this woman has a whole video series with tips to slipcovering!

Pink and Polka Dot-this crafty lady has her own slipcover ebook and tons of inspiration with her Friday’s Featured Slipcover series

The Nester slipcovered this whole sectional!

I’m excited to attempt some slipcovering for myself…hopefully I won’t be regretting those words next week:)  With the whole week off for spring break, I’ll have plenty of time to tackle some projects!

I’d love to hear any tips you have so link it up in the comments section!
